The question of if the U.S. should switch to a so-called Fair Tax was asked of the candidates. The Fair Tax would do away with the IRS in favor of a national retail sales tax.
Huckabee said he would "absolutely support" the tax and said that "getting mugged is more painless than an audit by the IRS" to Americans.
Huckabee and Romney got into a small scuffle over the issue. Romney said the truth is that we are going to have to pay taxes." He said he didn't see the Fair Tax as the best way to change the system.
Mayor Giuliani too was skeptical of it, questioning "Who is going to administer the sales tax?" and look out for exemptions."
Congressman Tancredo said that the income tax allows the government to manipulate behavior and recommened the Gov. Romney read two suggested books to change his mind, Romney said he already had and was unmoved.
Senator Brownback supports and "optional flat-tax" in which people can choose which kind of to pay. He also claimed it would lead to economic growth.

Which part?
The part that pretends the government can tax itself? Cause the fairtax is based on the absurd notion it can tax the federal government 500 billion dollars. And all other government bodies at least ANOTHER 500 billion dollars.
That's not just stupid -- thats insane.
Thats a trillion dollars farce -- the government CAN NOT pay itself a tax. The federal government sure as hell can't pay itself.

What part of Fairtax makes sense? The part that taxes cancer patients for their surgery, chemo, and rehab. Someone could EASILY have 150,000 in medical bills, and make 30K from their job. This person could have TAX GREATER than their salary.
Or the part that taxes rent, and pretend the rent will go DOWN?
Its just a farce that taxes will go DOWN with this looney tax, its a crock. Its nonsense. Its insane.
Or the part that taxes insurance premiums.
Did you know ALL car insurance, ALL health insurance, ALL home owners insurance, will have to pay this tax?
All rent
All utilities.
ALl medical cost
All gasoline sales.
Maybe you mean the "prebates" make sense -- where they PAY OUT 500 billion, and DON'T count it as an expense, cause it COMES BACK.
